Nicolae Vieru

Artistic Director, Balletschool Vieru

Nicolae Vieru received his dance training and teaching at the National Ballet School in Bucharest, Romania, in the master class of Professor Gheorghe Stefan, the former director of the school. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Ballet Dance, he became an engagement as a dancer at the Bucharest National Opera.

Nicolae Vieru also worked for the National Theatre “Ion Dacian” and the Romanian television ballet company. In addition, he also taught at the National Ballet School and National Institute of Performing Arts and Theater (IATC) in Bucharest on classical dance and stage movement. He was a First Soloist and ballet master at Stendal State Theater in former East Germany.

After the Fall of 1989, he moved to West Germany where he taught Ballet and Contemporary Dance at the Music College of Bad Königshofen. In 1991, he founded his own ballet school in Schweinfurt, West-Germany. The Balletschool has today four Branches in several cities like Erding, Murnau and Mühldorf. In 1994, Nicolae Vieru founded one of the first private contemporary dance companies in Romania. For his ballet productions worked dancers from the State Opera in Iasi, Nationalopera in Bucharest, Romanian State Ballet Fantasio in Constantza, dancers of the ballet company in Ulm, Meiningen and Dortmund (Germany). He created ballets like “La Mer”,”Jeux de Cartes”, “I remember Brancusi”, “L’art du pas de quatre”, “The Wizard of Oz”, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, “Pinocchio”, “Happy Day” and More.

Nicolae Vieru choreographed and taught regularly since 1995 for various national and international projects, workshops, masterclasses, and ballet performances. He has acted as a jury member in a broad variety of national and international competitions, such as World Ballet Competition (Orlando, USA), Sorrento Danza in Italy, Tanzolymp (Berlin, Germany), Seoul International Dance Competition in Korea, ÖTR Wien Ballet Competition (Vienna, Austria),
Miami International Ballet Competition (USA) and Global Dance Challenge in Vancouver Canada. He was also a Guest Teacher of the ESRA University in Skopje. Nicolai Vieru is a Member of the International Dance Council CID Unesco and the German Association for Professional Dance Education.
